NEWS

November '02

Dear brethren and friends of the mission,

there are a lot of news this last month in the mission field. Last week we had the pleasant visit of the pastor Elia Landi, his wife Gloria and Riccardo e Naomi Salvatori. They have taken the long van journey to bring us the relief goods to be distributed in the villages. During those days we have been together in the villages, where our visitors had the opportunity to share the Word or their testimonies in the different meetings we have. We really had a good time together, but the most significant moment was the seminar on the "Church Structure", which we organised on that occasion. The Seminar was open to all the missions in Pogradec and Elia shared there the Apostolic vision. Praise the Lord for the opportunity to share the Vision He has given to us even in Albania. Other information about this journey, you will be able to read in the next Newsletter of Infomissione.

Since the end of October, we have been missing a very useful support in the mission work, especially in the children's ministry. Sokol is doing his obligatory military service. This is surely going to be an experience that will mature him as a person as well as in the spirit. We can see the hand of God on Sokol and Ardi, for an important ministry for Albania, as well as on other young people such as Linda, Rudi, Nardi and Jeta.

In November started the new course of the Bible School (Christ for the Nations) and as you already know Ardi has worked with them for two years, starting with the practical works and after that teaching. This year even Sandro will teach in that school every Tuesday. This will be a further blessing and it is at the same time a prove of the atmosphere of unity between other missions working in Pogradec.

Thanks to your offers we have had the possibility to send Jeta, a girl from Cerrave, in the Bible School. When she finishes the school, in April, she will be a help for Luciana in the children's ministry, till Sokol finishes his military service. It is sure now, that we will need even more co-workers for children's work in the future. As a matter of fact there are seven weekly meetings in the villages around Pogradec, which sometimes are very difficult.

In the village of Bratomire the difficulties continue. The leaders of the mosque were gathered to make a decision to forbid us coming to the village to preach the gospel. Praise the Lord, in midst of these people there was a person that made others think and reminded them on the difficult time when they were in great need of water and how we, Christians had helped them, besides delivering many relief goods. This cancelled the decision for the moment, even though they were some manifestations to discourage us. We can surely say, that God has not abandoned us: As you already know, we were sent out of the room we used to have for the meetings, however we have now rented a house, where we can even have our children's meetings under a roof, because this house has two separate rooms. So far we had the little children's meetings outside with all the problems that this brings, especially during the cold months (Bratomire is more than 1000 mt. over the sea level).

In the village of Stropcka our only two sisters in the meetings have left: Mira has moved to Tirana to her sister and she is attending meetings in a small church there, and Dafina has married a non believer and is preparing the papers to leave to Greece. As far as the project of building the Mini-center is concerned, we are still waiting to see through some promises and donations to buy the land. For the moment, the only sure thing is the 500 m² of 1800 m² in total and a few little offers. We want to remind you that this is going to be a little center used as a church and for social activities, as a testimony in Stropcka for other villages around it.

We as a family are well apart from the first winter's colds. Our Albanian is getting better every day, and we have been able to even preach short messages in Albanian. Even this year we will spend Christmas here. We are trying to organize this "fest" together with our brothers and sisters. On this occasion we want to give you the best Seasons greetings.

In conclusion, we want to express our gratitude to those who have contributed to make presents for the children. Thank you to all of you that have supported us financially and in your prayers. Thank you also for the letters and the emails you have sent us. They are a great encouragement.

Please pray for:

  • protection from decease during the winter,
  • problems in Bratomire,
  • spiritual growth of the people in the villages,
  • financial support for our co-workers,
  • funds for the Mini-center

May the Lord bless you!

Luciana, Sandro, Carlo e Ester
